Montederramo is a municipality in Ourense with a thousand things to offer. Talking about Montederramo means talking about the origin of the Ribeira Sacra, the San Mamede Mountain Range, the Biduiral, the Monastery, the Marrubio wayside cross, the Natura Network… Talking about Montederramo is talking about natural and cultural heritage.

SAN MAMEDE MOUNTAIN RANGE

It is one of the most important massifs in Galicia. The fauna and flora are rich and varied, with the “Bidueiral” being particularly noteworthy.

MAO RIVER

The Mao River is a tributary of the Sil that originates on the northern slope of the San Mamede Mountain Range belonging to Montederramo.

VILARIÑO FRÍO BRIDGE.

Near Vilariño Frío, we find the remains of an ancient Roman road, known as Vía Nova or Antonine’s Way XVIII.

RELIGIOUS COMPLEX

This is a religious complex consisting of the hermitage of San Andrés, two “petos de ánimas” of which only the niches remain, and the wooden cross.

RECREATIONAL AREA PONTE MAZAIRA

Just over a kilometer from the Monastery of Montederramo, you will find this recreational area perfect for spending the day.

CARACOCHA

This oak tree, over 400 years old, is called Caracocha due to the large hole in its trunk, and it is considered the Sacred Oak.

MONASTERY OF SANTA MARIA

This monastery is located in the center of the village of Montederramo, in front of the town hall and the Caracocha. Currently, guided tours are available almost every day of the week. For more information, click on the reservations button
